Letter from the SCAA President

Thank you for visiting the Spill Control Association of America (SCAA) website. I hope you find the site both informative and interesting. Since 1973, SCAA has been the leading industry trade association representing a broad mix of oil spill contractors, equipment manufacturers and management firms. Our goal is to represent a unified voice of industry, and to ensure the highest integrity, safety and quality among our membership.

SCAA is a dynamic organization, and is consistently monitoring the pulse of the industry. A few of the current challenges and focuses that we have include:
  • Economic uncertainty of the times, and its impact on our members business,
  • Consistent enforcement of current regulations established by OPA-90,
  • Proper use and coordination of convergent volunteers in the oil spill industry,
  • Progress on pending legislation and rulemaking process.
SCAA represents our membership interests by actively engaging in discussions with pertinent regulatory agencies and affiliated groups, and implementing programs that will assure the long term viability of our industry. Specifically, SCAA:
  • Participates in a Partnership Action Team (PAT) with the USCG and the Association of Petroleum Industry Co-Op Managers (APICOM) on an annual basis, for the purposes of jointly addressing industry trends and issues,
  • Has recently formed an affiliate membership with the American Salvage Association (ASA), as a means to strengthen our combined voices on common issues impacting the response community,
  • Is promoting an Educational Scholarship Program that will award several scholarships to qualified high school students across the country who will be pursuing advance education in the area of environmental protection.
There are some great benefits to becoming a SCAA member, including:
  • Membership in the Small Business Legislative Council (SBLC), which provides members weekly updates when Congress is in session outlining legislative and regulatory actions of concern to small businesses,
  • SCAA members receive substantially reduced pricing for pre-employment background screening, through a partnership with Occuscreen. Additionally, Occuscreen fully integrates with software from ISNET World, making background screening processes more efficient and cost-effective,
  • SpillBriefs, the SCAA twice-monthly newsletter, is sent to all SCAA members. It contains up to date information of items of interest impacting our industry, as well as member news.
  • "
  • SCAA Annual Conference, which is held each year in the Washington D.C. is a two day event that brings together SCAA members, regulators and other industry partners for open discussion and presentations on important industry topics.
Thanks again for visiting our website, and please do not hesitate to contact me or SCAA headquarters if you would like additional information or have specific questions regarding SCAA.

Sincerely,

Brian J. House
SCAA President
